Powerfile® and StorageQuest™ Unite to Provide Certified Archive Storage Solution for Cost-Effective Regulatory Compliance

Partnership Combines Network Attached Storage with Reliable, Industry-Standard DVD Media to Deliver Scalable Solution for Longterm Data Archive

SAN JOSE, Calif., June 27, 2005 – PowerFile®, the worldwide volume leader in DVD storage libraries, today announced it has certified the StorageQuest™ MSM 150 series product line for use with their award-winning R200 series DVD storage libraries. StorageQuest, the leader in Network Attached optical storage management, produces the Multi-services Storage Manager (MSM) 150, an appliance-based solution that utilizes Network Attached Storage (NAS)connectivity to seamlessly integrate PowerFile DVD storage libraries into existing network infrastructures.

By combining the ease-of-use and quick access of disk-based NAS with reliable, unalterable Write Once Read Many (WORM) DVD media, PowerFile and StorageQuest are able to deliver an ideal solution for archival storage with unmatched price/performance. The open systems approach leverages the low cost of both Ethernet connectivity and DVD media to simplify management of archival information in small-to-medium sized businesses. Healthcare, financial, government, life science, legal and publicly traded organizations can now easily and cost-effectively satisfy stringent regulatory retention requirements for critical information.

“Explosive data growth rates combined with stringent retention requirements creates a significant challenge for small-to-medium organizations with limited resources,” said Jim Sherhart, director of marketing at PowerFile. “Pure magnetic archive solutions such as Content Addressable Storage (CAS) and tape based WORM are too expensive and complicated for smaller organizations, and do not adequately address the risks of magnetic interference and mechanical failure that put critical data at risk. By combining the benefits of NAS with industry-standard DVD media, PowerFile and StorageQuest offer a unique archive solution that satisfies the most stringent retention requirements for a fraction of the cost of today’s solutions.”

“The PowerFile StorageQuest partnership will greatly influence vertical markets that require secure, long-term archival of critical information,” said Fred Bedard, vice president of sales and marketing for StorageQuest. “By combining the strengths of PowerFile’s price-leading DVD libraries with StorageQuest’s MSM 150 network appliance, small-to-medium sized business can archive their data with a non-proprietary solution that is free from vendor lock-in.”
